Creating My Learning Log

AECT Standard 2.1 stipulates that candidates “apply content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes.” This stricture correlates content pedagogy and the application of processes and technologies in the context of improving learning.

The aim of this log is to create a record of this correlation. In other words, how do I bring together content pedagogy–the ability to transfer skills and knowledge of my content area–and technology and processes, in such a way that learning occurs in an improved way?

The purpose of this log is to provide me with a means of self-assessing, and reflecting on my progress. I believe this is particularly useful in an online learning environment, where there is a lack of physical artifacts and personal relationships that would create a backdrop for the my learning narrative. A learning narrative is an important aspect of learning: one needs to be aware of the fact that one has learned things. In the relative isolation of online learning, the things that may usually remind us of what we have learned–in particular, fellow classmates, a teacher, in the company of whom we create memories–need to be replaced. That is the function of this learning log.
